Willow Healing Center

WHC-CIRCLELogo design: Matthew Ansoorian at Native GD and Native GD Apparel

Hey everyone – after a long and thoughtful process, I have left my cozy little job with all the security one needs (financially) to follow my integrity.  4 weeks ago, Willow Healing Center had its grand opening in Woodland Hills, California.

I believe in a few things when it comes to people and medicine:

We (humans) are complex.  We are physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological beings.  I believe that treating just the physical being is only part of the process…it would be like fixing a car and forgetting about the gas.

I have found that not only is the system in which we receive health care broken, but the guise in which doctors treat is severely broken as well.  I know.  My patient panel was over 3,000 patients and I was on the proverbial hamster wheel spinning away daily as patients came in and out of my office flustered and disappointed with their treatment (for the most part).  I was always one to spend the time needed with my patients but the 20 patients per day cycle became a suffering existence.

Therefore I have decided, with lots of thought, that something had to be done.  I decided that I was going to work for MY PATIENTS and NOT the insurance companies anymore.
The fix was simple.  Let’s get rid of extraneous “moving parts and red tape” offer value, time and a compassionate ear  and I can’t go wrong – even it it fail.

I started Willow Healing Center with my wonderful wife who is our in-house psychologist.

Our dream, since we met was to work down the hall from each other.  Well, check! that’s done.

The Willow Speaks

A friend of mine once said in a time of pain that he felt much like a willow branch blowing in a storm – not quite sure if he was going to break.

Do we ever really break? A willow branch is quite pliable. It can be manipulated into many different shapes, bent end-to-end in some cases and withstand significant internal and environmental stresses.  However, like most things, it has a breaking point if stressed too far. Watching From Afar!

The disconnected look into “enjoying” the suffering of others.

So, I was sitting here, flipping through my phone’s Facebook app this morning.  I found myself constantly swiping past multiple posts which were titled things like, “this man yells at his wife one to many times, and you will never guess how it ends,” or “watch what happens when this girl takes one step too far off a building – you won’t believe what happens,” or “Check out the ugliest pictures of people that should never have been taken.”  At this point, it’s like I’m hypnotized if I’m not paying attention.  Somehow, someway I occasionally find that I am drawn to this craziness – in a car-accident-curiosity-type of way.  Continue reading Watching From Afar!

The High Dive!

What kind of life do you want? For me it’s trying to be proactive, not allowing precious opportunities to pass and taking risks. It’s tough sometimes but it’s doable- that’s the essence of this article.

The Auscultation Meditation: How I meditate without anyone knowing

By: Michael Lewis, MD

If you haven’t figured it out yet, meditation is AWESOME! It is a chance to ‘try’ and silence that infernal thought making machine in your cranial vault! However, if you are one to see the word meditation and think, “No way! Not even close –I get it, I’m supposed to chant and sit with my arms open signing ‘asshole’ with my thumb and first finger?” (See pic below). Continue reading The Auscultation Meditation: How I meditate without anyone knowing

Good Grief

By Matt Ansoorian

I recently read a science-based article in the Guardian suggesting that “our collective inability to grieve over economic pains has prevented us from coming up with sustainable solutions for the future.” Going a bit further Continue reading Good Grief

Generation Gap, Where’s The Compassion?

BY: MICHAEL LEWIS

generations

There is a huge generation gap, between our parents’ generation and ours. I don’t just mean temporally. I mean emotionally. Our parent’s generation, for the most part, is from the time where deep discussion was rare. Issues were swept under the proverbial rug and Continue reading Generation Gap, Where’s The Compassion?

Strategized Lives – The Human Brochure

BY: MATT ANSOORIAN

In these days of Social Media (SM) dialogue it’s become harder than ever to fully contemplate the “true” essence of an individual. In most media circles we see well crafted, strategically marketed projections of an individual; a byproduct of social undercurrents, as defined by the “pop culture machine”.

For me, observing someones so called life, via social channels is the equivalent of sifting through a digital brochure; a gallery of projections that connect us to what is “IN” at the moment, or ideas that simply allow us to look “interesting” in the eyes of pop culture. An external projection of a life worth celebrating.

The question I’d like to raise is, with all of that energy going towards the external, what happens to the internal quest?

This is by no means a new topic. Many psych and spiritual circles have begun to study the effects of these synthetic representations of peoples lives, and the predominant study indicates that we are encouraging widespread narcissism in our approach to life; “Generation Selfie.”

Erectile Dysfunction

 BY: MICHAEL LEWIS, MD

First and foremost, I hate to break the news, but if you are having erectile dysfunction (including premature ejaculation) it’s probably not a “medical” thing, sorry.  It’s time to look inwards and really be honest with yourself about what’s happening inside your mind.  Ask yourself these questions: Is my erection soft or not as firm as it used to be?  Does it happen when I masturbate?  When did it start? Am I ruminating or thinking about it before I start foreplay?  During intercourse, am I orgasm focused or “in-tune” with my partner?  Do I feel depressed/Anxious?  Is it trouble getting erect or staying erect?  Do I have trouble getting aroused?

Yes, our penis has Continue reading Erectile Dysfunction
